South Africa November 13, 2013:Last week the management team of the World Boutique Hotel Awards have released the names of the hotel finalists after hundreds of nominations received throughout the year.

As expected, competition was fierce. But what do the results say about high end hospitality?

The choice of finalists follow an interesting trend: sumptuous classical luxury is losing space to comfortable modern luxury. Luxury hotels with a stronger focus on design, comfort, wellbeing and relaxation have been receiving more attention from the Media and from the industry itself than luxury hotels where design, atmosphere and customer services feel more formal. More and more guests are seeking luxury and relaxation in retreats and independent hotels offering a more relaxed, home like environment. Dressing up for breakfast or dinner is no longer as desirable as wearing comfortable clothes in a friendly luxurious environment offering a high level of services without the price tag.

Luxury continues to walk towards escapism but high heels and dinner jackets are being replaced by sandy shoes and designer casual wear. Attention to comfort, fashion trends and wellness is gaining more and more space. The new luxury is fashionable, ever changing and cool.
